BLACK YOUTH PAGES

Black African-American youth are a very vibrant and energetic part of the American community.  This energy can be seen in sports, music and youth culture.  It can also be seen in academics, inventiveness, creativity.

The harnessing of the energy of young folks between 15 to 30 is one that is highly organized in Black America, no matter what is shown on the media.

The challenges of Black youth today iis making sure they remain physically and mentally healthy, being prepared to apply self-defense and self-preservation against bad habits and all bad trends, and striving to achieve at all levels.

HIP-HOP INTERNATIONAL

HIP-HOP HAS GONE GLOBAL AND INTERNATIONAL.  Hiphop clutre and rap came from a form of ‘toasting’ that developed in the Jamaican reggae music scene and Jamaican DJ’ing.  Jamaican DJ’s played the best in Jamaican and African-Amerfican music and records.  Some of these records had a ’singing’ side and an instrumental ‘version.’  The Dj’s did freestyle ‘toasting’ (sing-song, poetry/rapping) over R&B instrumentals or reggae instruments from the Jamaican and African-American music creators.

The ancient roots of rap/hiphop is in the African tradition of using poetry and recitation to tell stories and to send messages.  This form also uses instruments like the ‘talking drums,’ talking harps and particular types of notes (like the ‘blue notes’ of Jazz) to ’speak’ to people, who understand the code.

Today, rap/hip-hop and reggae-toasting (along with the spanish-speaking REGGAETON FIRST CREATED BY JAMAICAN-PANAMANIANS LIKE ‘GENERAL’ are booming.

Today, rap, reggae, hiphop and spoken-word poetry has gone global.
